Choosing the Right Chevrolet Silverado: A Buying Guide

A recent study found that in 2019 more than 500,000 Chevy Silverados were purchased. The Chevrolet Silverado has long been a consumer favorite with its tough exterior and powerful engine. However, now that all the latest models are out, which Silverado is the best buy?

Don’t worry; with this guide, you can find out! We’ve investigated the many upgrades and changes to the new Silverado. That way, you can decide which model is right for you and your family.

Now, are you ready to get started? Here’s a quick look at Chevy Silverado models:

Third Generation: 2014-2018

With the third generation, many buyers were looking for a family vehicle that was fuel efficient, safe, and comfortable. With that in mind, Chevy focused on what consumers wanted for their ideal truck.

First, the engine was improved, making it one of the best fuel-efficient V-8 trucks on the market; then, a number of safety features were added. For example, Chevy added anti-lock brakes, stability control, pretensioners, and even more airbags. All models within this generation earned a five-star safety rating and passed the IIHS safety tests with a rating of “Good.”

So with the 2014 model, Chevy focused on making it the ultimate full-size truck. However, there were many complaints about its overall weight, lack of special features, and interior design leading into the 2015 model.

For the 2016 model, Chevy gave the truck its much-needed improvements. It offered new headlights, LED taillights, and provided the trucks with new grills.

Chevy continued to make interior improvements during its 2017 and 2018 models and added safety features. However, due to the market’s competitiveness, other brands were outselling Chevrolet due to their lower weight and recall rate.

Fourth Generation: 2019-Present

The fourth generation is where the Chevy Silverado shined. They took the criticisms about the weight of the overall truck and completely redesigned it. All fourth-generation models have a steal body but aluminum hood and doors, which decreases its weight by 400 pounds.

Now for the 2019 model, they didn’t make many interior improvements; however, they made the truck more aerodynamic. They also improved fuel economy to 17 MPG.

With the 2020 model, Chevy started focusing on enhancing its technology to set it apart from its competitors. Chevy added different technology features, including a heads-up display and in-vehicle trailering system. This new technology earned Chevrolet not one but two kelly blue book awards, including the best resale value.

For the 2021 model, Chevrolet introduced a new trailering system. It includes a trailer length track, cargo bed enhancements, and a new jack-knife alert. With the 2022 model, Chevy upgraded its interior. Plus, they added safety features, making it one of the most requested trucks on the market.
